Track Allocation

What if my preferred track is full?

Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration form asks for a first and second track preference. If your first preference is full, you will be assigned your second preference. If both your first and second preferences are full, you will be placed in whichever track still has availability — this is not a preference on your part, simply the last remaining option. You will always be notified in advance so you can decide whether you still wish to attend.

Will I know if a track is full before I apply?

Yes. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Once a track reaches its maximum of 10 participants, it will be closed on the registration form and no further applications will be accepted for it.

If all three tracks become full, a waiting list will be opened. Anyone on the waiting list will be contacted immediately if a place becomes available due to a cancellation.

Can I switch tracks after registering?

Track changes may be possible depending on availability. Please contact the organisers at maurizio.viano@unito.it as early as possible if you wish to request a switch.

Accommodation

Who has priority for accommodation?

Students (BA, MA, and PhD) have priority for the provided accommodation. Researchers and faculty participants are very welcome to attend, but may be asked to arrange their own lodging depending on availability. You will be informed clearly at the point of acceptance.

What does the €200 registration fee cover?

The fee covers accommodation and all meals for the full week (6–10 July 2026) for participants who receive the provided accommodation. Travel to and from Turin is not included and is the responsibility of each participant.

What if I arrange my own accommodation?

If you are a researcher or faculty participant who arranges their own lodging, please contact us to discuss the applicable fee. We will do our best to accommodate all participants fairly.

Registration & Payment

How do I pay the registration fee?

The registration form does not include a payment link. Once your application has been accepted, you will be contacted with instructions to email the organising agency at info@edentours.it to receive your personal payment link. Your place is only confirmed once payment is complete.

When will I hear back after applying?

You can expect to receive a response within 2–3 weeks of submitting your application. If you have not heard back after three weeks, please contact us at maurizio.viano@unito.it.

What is the registration deadline?

The deadline to submit your application is 1 May 2026. We recommend applying early as tracks fill on a first-come, first-served basis.

General

Who can apply?

The summer school is open to students and researchers at all career stages — BA, MA, PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty — with an interest in digital methods applied to the ancient world. No prior programming experience is required.

Do I need programming experience?

No. All three tracks are designed to be accessible to participants without any prior coding knowledge. You will be introduced to relevant tools and methods from the ground up during the school.

Can I bring my own data and research questions?

Yes — participants are actively encouraged to bring their own datasets and research questions. The afternoon hackathon sessions are designed precisely to give you hands-on time with your own material.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. A certificate of completion is issued to all participants who attend the full programme.

Are dietary requirements catered for?

Meals are provided as part of the registration fee and will include vegetarian options. However, we are unable to guarantee halal, kosher, or vegan food. Participants with these requirements are welcome to source suitable meals independently at their own expense.
